A branding project for

a pet friendly cafe in Pune, India

Brand Story:

The idea for a cafe came from a very simple need, to be able to hangout with Cookie, “fat labrador”. The client wanted a place in their city (Pune) where they could hang out together as a pack...

“Usually our fat lab was not allowed in a lot of places..So we were out and she stayed home. Unfair is what we thought and I am sure Cookie seconded.

Travel to any cafe in say Paris or Amsterdam and there are no questions asked as to why you have brought your pet along. Our small little cafe will of course serve a good cup of coffee and for those hunger pangs we will offer simple meals and of course your pet. Cookie loves food... We source our ingredients responsibly and offer great quality food and coffee. We want you to sit back, relax, think, read, play.... and indulge with your pets even more.” Unlike other cafes, we are a small establishment, run by a trio of friends (2 humans Smith & Aniket and a fat labrador Cookie).

Need:

Branding of a pet-friendly cafe that is:

• Friendly
• Cozy
• Relaxing

• Must suggest that it is pet-friendly

• Bright

A logo for the cafe along with basic collaterals were to be designed. The tricky part about designing the logo was that it could give a wrong interpretation to the customers of a pet shop or a pet goodies store. The fusion of a cafe and pets had to be integrated very carefully. I used an approach which would show a dog and a coffee mug. The expression of the dog could help give a hint of friendliness.

Final Logo:

The logo selected for the Cafe is ideal because in one glance, the customer/viewer will understand what the brand is about.

A dog (labrador) cutely balancing a coffee cup on his nose clearly hints at a cafe that is pet friendly. The font is readable and goes with the logo as well.

Form:

An organic form has been used for the base of the logo.

The form of the dog is a silhouette of the Labrador owned by the clients- Cookie.
